I bought my Everex RS2800 from Walmart right around the first of the year for $288 on Clearance. Now I see that's apparently the normal price. It may seem like a good deal but as I immediately had to add 1 gb of RAM and an 128mb AGP video card to gain acceptable performance from Windoes XP, you need to add that extra cost into the equation. Previously, performance with the onboard video and 256mb of RAM was pitiful at best.
Another concern is the system does not come with a backup XP CD. The OS comes preinstalled on the 40mb HD and no backup other than the mirror on the HD (i.e., lost HD space). To repair or re-install Windows, you must press a function key upon bootup. Factor in the cost of a Windows CD = more expense.
